According to the signals emanated, no doubt with a Cheneyesque lack of contrition, from the desk of Dick Stursberg, this is the week 180 CBC English employees will lose their jobs.
Not many of the Tea Makers writers work at the Corpse (use of second-person pronouns notwithstanding). The number isn’t zero, but we aren’t led by Alphonse Ouimet anymore.
I’m not going to pretend to understand the tribulations each and every one of those 180 people will face. This is one of those times when the floor needs to be opened even wider than it ever was. I want everyone to view this thread as a platform they can use to talk about the layoffs – any aspect, up to and including how the process went for you and what you want to do now. Or anything else.
You can stay anonymous or pseudonymous or use your real name, as you wish. Or you can write a full-fledged guest post, again under any authorship you choose. You can do whatever you want. The floor is yours.

I have to say I find less and less relevant to me on this blog. I guess i still check it out of habit. Sad to say I am unbookmarking it today. Buh-bye.
Longtime Teamakers readres will recognize that since its inception the blog has had detractors. There has always been someone claiming the blog is “so over.” The fact that they can post it here, and that there is still someone reading it, points to a certain amount of importance left in the old gal.
And maybe some of the contributors are dilettants. Didn’t Ouimet once say you get the blog you deserve? I’d have to look it up.
This is the blog we have right now. This is it.
Having said all that, 180 people is not a lot of people. it could have been a lot worse. Some won’t be happy until the CBC suffers a little. Let’s hope this is it.

Thanks for the opportunity. I do have something to say, Teamakers: Go screw yourselves. Your regular contributors are a bunch of armchair analysts and backseat producers with ZERO practical advice or insight. You don’t understand what it takes to make TV and radio. You don’t understand the challenges the average producer faces. You make sport of kicking us when we’re down. You contribute to a CBC culture that is unprofessional, petty, divided, and defeatist. No, you don’t understand. You don’t support this broadcaster or the people who work their asses off for it. You serve no purpose. So spare me your gossip-grubbing phony sympathy.
