BBCNews.com editor to head CBCNews.ca

Rachel Nixon has been appointed director of digital media for CBC News.
She’s a Webby winner!
But appears to have exhausted all possibilities at NowPublic.
Totally with it, there she is on Twitter.

“That guy knew SFA about Canada, let alone public broadcasting”

You have to know something about public broadcasting to be a manager at the CBC? All evidence suggests otherwise.

How long will she stay with the CBC? Much shorter than CBC stays with her.

I’ve heard that he was actually a sweet and wonderful human being, but he was marked by a terrible curse to the effect that if he looked away from his Blackberry screen for longer than 30 seconds a day everyone he knew would die.

Is there some pre-requisite that you can’t be a Canadian to land this job?

Recall her predecessor Jon Dube. Aptly described by Ouimet as

“the robot CBC.ca manager sent from the future to exterminate mankind and trigger Armageddon”

That guy knew SFA about Canada, let alone public broadcasting. Let alone how to socially interact with non-mammals.

Warning to Ms. Nixon: citizen journalism are two of the dirtiest words in the CBC newsroom.

“For some reason the CBC doesn’t mention her tenure at NowPublic.”

    Except that they did.

“Nixon left her position as deputy world editor of BBCNews.com in 2008 to become global news editor of NowPublic.com, the Vancouver-based participatory news network.”
