Blind item

Is something serious and calamitous, possibly related to budget, about to happen at or to the CBC, or is that nothing more than baseless scare- and rumourmongering?

But wait, how can revenues be down? Hasn’t the King of all Media been bragging about the CBC’s huge “audience share”? What about the champagne breakfasts which celebrated the CBC’s new direction and brilliant new programming strategies? What about the huge election night numbers or the olympic coverage? How can the CBC’s revenues be slipping? Didn’t Dick outsource all production to maximize the CBC’s cash flow? What about Little Mosque? Aren’t advertisers lining up to buy ads on Canada’s new hit show? Didn’t the CBC save $3 million by turning down the chance to buy the HNIC song? Didn’t the closing of CBC Design save another $1 million? Isn’t Saint Hubert able to save the CBC? I thought the Border was generating a ton of money for Dick and his friends? Please, what’s really going on? Can’t Mercer get his political friends to increase the CBC’s funding? What about those ACTRA press conferences? Didn’t they help? Haven’t the huge advertising budgets for the Hour increased interest in the CBC? What about the sale of ALL CBC programming to that British company? Didn’t the CBC make something on that deal? Can’t Fred Fuchs please do something to help? Isn’t Test the Nation important to Canadians? Or Dragon’s Den? Won’t Canadians be outraged if the CBC continues to suffer? What’s another few hundred million? Please Ottawa, please help the CBC.

Non-post? Anybody see Mosque’s Wednesday numbers?

Let’s see some denial that cuts are coming.

I have to agree. This is the essence of a non-post, and still somehow condescending.

I hate to say it but Where is Ouimet When You Need Her?

I can’t believe all the items you don’t bother posting, arguing that’s not your role, blah blah, and now this is what we get?

The current management regime spent considerably more than budgeted pushing Mosque, The Hour, and The Border (trying to prop up their programming calls) and these shows are all underperforming so revenue is less than anticipated. The Leafs suck so that revenue stream doesn’t work. Unless the Harper Govt. plans to give them more dough there will have to be cuts. Or, that darkest of possibilities, ads on morning radio. If it were an institution that functioned like any in the real world those responsible would have long ago have left.
