‘Clod’

Claude Galipeau is VP of interactive at Astral, the people who bring us captioned hetero porn and illegal billboards. (Watch him live. Look at photos of him. Read his LinkedInâ„¢ profile.)

Previously, Galipeau had essentially the same job at Alliance Atlantis, now owned by the people bringing us a “human-rights museum.”

And before that he ruled CBC Online with an iron fist, or so I am told. That’s not all I’d heard, of course, so I sent along this question for attribution:

I write the Tea Makers blog now. You will be aware what that is.

Is it true or false that, when an assistant at CBC pronounced your given name as “Clod,” you fired her or somehow otherwise caused her employment to end?

His E-mail system generated the read receipt I requested, so I know that someone with access to his published E-mail account, perhaps his secretary, opened the message. There was not, however, anything in the way of a response. He can answer the question in the comments section if he wishes.

And of course I tried to contact the assistant in question, but she doesn’t have anything resembling a published profile or E-mail address.

Anyone who doesn’t ‘get’ the post is lucky; probably because they’ve never first-hand witnessed this kind of turkey at the helm.

I see it this way: managers should be respected as co-workers and not as though they were royalty (King Clod?). This is a huge impediment to ‘wellness’ in our workplace and it needs to stop.

Fact is, as a group, the non-managers sabotage ‘wellness’ too, and this needs fixing. However, a commitment to wellness has to start at the top and work it’s way downwards.

Hubert has somehow managed to give me hope for improvement; something no other prez since Tony has given me.

In defense of the original post, no one else is carrying these stories (the original “Clod” story, I mean)… these are the sort of things I come to this blog for.

    What Kev said squared

I’m with Kev on this one too.

  • Real Ouimet says:

I agree with Kev on this one. I don’t get this post. Surely there needs to be a discussion about wellness, but this is the wrong way to do it.

  • Fake Ouimet says:

I don’t work at the Corpse, Kev. (In that respect, actually, yes, I am a tourist.) I was attempting to verify a particularly egregious tale of management fiat and pique.

As you know from the previous entry in this series, I explicitly welcomed guest posts on the topic. Plus the comment sections remain open; it is where you posted, for example.

There is no effort to minimize the extent of the damage done to frontline CBC employees by “the culture,” a poisoned work environment, and managers. Quite the contrary: This is one venue to air grievances and share the pain.

I know far more about stress and misery at the CBC than anybody should or you ever will. I’ve had my own personal share, I saw my best friend give up their dream and quit, and I’ve watched other friends reduced to stumbling zombies from the stress that they’ve been subjected to by one ass-covering superior or another. You’re not even a tourist.

You may be under the illusion that gossip about Claude fucking Galipeau, someone who hasn’t been inside the building in almost 3 years, is related to the discussion of wellness at the CBC. I’m here to tell you that he has sweet fuck all to do with it. If you want to talk about the situation, please do. It needs talking about.

But don’t pretend that this most recent post has anything to do with our predicament. All you’re doing is indulging in schoolyard name-calling, made all the more pathetic by your attempt to inject yourself into a narrative that you don’t understand and are incapable of empathising with. If you can’t do more than that, stick to wittering about typefaces.

I’ve seen managers at the CBC who do not like to be disagreed with. By ‘do not like’ I mean that you will be fired or your contract will not be renewed or you will find yourself working weekends or you’ll be badgered/intimidated until you quit.

An interesting true fact: management, as a career path, attracts many psychopaths.

Maybe there should be some sort of special test. We could call it a ‘wellness initiative’.

  • Fake Ouimet says:

My followup, Kev, will depend on whether or not I actually get an answer.

If you’re new here, check the postings on wellness.

The Robert Ouimet stories are even funnier. (the real Robert Ouimet, of Radio 2/Radio 3 fame, not sure if there’s a fake one of him too)

I won’t pass them on here… too libelous? Maybe someone else can try. But they’re still funny.

  • Kev says:

That’s some good media criticism there, Joe. What was your followup question going to be? “Asphinctersayswhat” doesn’t really work over email.
