The Tea Makers Welcomes our new Chairman

The Honourable Bev Oda has appointed us a new chairman.

Mr. Casgrain is an avid supporter of arts and culture. He was educated at McGill University where he received a Bachelor of Arts. In 1976, he became a member of the Order of Chartered Accountants of Quebec. He holds appointments on several boards, including Century II Holdings Inc and the Toronto Rehab Foundation where he is Vice-Chair.

Yes, he sounds like a real avid supporter of arts and culture, in a non-artsy, nothing-at-all-to-do-with-culture kind of way.

Maybe it’s just as well. We’re getting out of the arts and culture business. It’s Game Over for those dopesmoking effeminate freaks. What we need is an avid supporter of Factual Entertainment who can flip the Mövenpick.

The position has previously been held by Patrick Watson, Guylaine Saucier, Carole Taylor, and Guy Fournier. In theory the chair is supposed to act as a background overseer and maybe do some political lobbying, leaving the “real work” for the President. But in practice they don’t seem to do much of anything, and no one listens to them. Except when they talk about taking a crap.

Far be it for me to be alarmist, but this does appointment not bode well for Rabinovitch’s departure in October. A spring election is looking unlikely, and who knows what knob the Conservatives will give the President’s job to? And all this résumé padding about arts and culture on a sneaky Friday press release is a bit of a stretch.

    “Bit of a stretch” indeed.

I like your photo file name too.

There is no difference between CTV and CBC television now. What’s a CBC television program that couldn’t be just as happy on CTV? “Dragons Den”, “Little Mosque” , “Gill Deacon”, Hockey? “The National” …the television service is no longer defensible.

I just love how the press release says: “He was educated at McGill University where he received a Bachelor of Arts.” Just throw the word “arts” around a little and hope that it sticks, why not!

Slight difference, Justin – one censors the news, the other one can’t afford to …

I think it’s intended to be precisely that, Justin: a huge blow to such as we.

With a cv like that I would encourage all who work for Mother Corp to repeat after me, ” DEBITS on the left and CREDITS on the right.

  • Justin Beach says:

Yeah, from what I’ve read about him he seems to be a supporter of arts and culture in much the same way that Stephen Harper is an environmentalist. This will be a huge blow to those of us who think there should be a difference between CBC and CTV.

  • Dwight Williams says:

    Unnerving.
