Rednecks seek $75,000 for t-shirts

One of the CBC’s new reality shows is Dragon’s Den, where entrepreneurs apply for venture capital.

Wait, where are you going? Just listen to me for a sec.

One of the biznob consultants keeps an exuberant, confusing, kinetic blog that also acts as a kind of production blog for the show.

Q: Why would you be a good bet for the Dragons to invest in?

A: I have built a strong reputation as a product launch specialist in the global technology and consumer products industry.

But it’s not all like that. Some of it is fun. He goes to Kitchener. Producer Owen Leitch wrecks a CBC van. He drops hints about who the investors are (the owner of the Drake Hotel, the Kernels popcorn guy, etc).

But what really caught my eye is that one of the applicants is White Cowbell Oklahoma.

Now, Toronto hipsters are probably sniffing with derision, but the first time they saw this band they no doubt said “holy shit” in spite of themselves, just like everyone else. Their live shows are exuberant, confusing, kinetic affairs featuring loud guitars, topless women, and acts of destruction.

Q: Why do you want to be on the [Dragon’s] Den?

A: Because we are a nine man southern fried rock army, hell bent on world domination!

This show might actually be good.

What happened to Azur Mizrachi seems strangely cruel. And Hoff flying to Jerusalem to do it? Weird.

So cruel, and so weird, surely we’re missing some important part of the story?

Back to The One for me, too. Did anyone else see the opening for the National chime in at about 9:50 by mistake?

Any opinion on George H going to Jerusalem to blow away the veteran camera guy? Did that “News Study” also say get rid of people who can hold a camera steady? Good timing, anyway. And what about Programming getting rid of the hapless lass who used to go to the Blockbuster clearance rack to pick the movies. No, not the old lady married to the guy on the Board. The young one.

Later…Got to get back to The One. This is unbelievable.

Gimmick act featured on gimmick show. Whatever happened to “Vanilla Ice”, anyway?

Well as the “Biznob” in question, I appreciate the review….but if you thought WCO was huge, wait ’til you meet the Bikini Weenie gal, Tad the Toilet Paper man and the guy dressed as a Parrot to promote his Farm as a theme park.

    See you at the watercooler,

    Sean Wise,

I just don’t have much to say about it.

No question that it’s a loss for the CBC. He was one of our best and loved this place more than anyone.

But he got a new job.

I’m sure that some people weren’t so happy with Paul for refusing to work during the lockout. But butting heads is just part of the job, isn’t it? I’m reluctant to put much more emphasis on it than that.

I’m all for bringing in fresh blood to the corp. But there is a right and wrong way to do it. A guy who’s been reporting for 25 years, most of it overseas, has a lot to teach someone out of j-school. We need to phase in the young guys, not just have them replace the old guys. Just like anywhere else.

But senior management getting all of these ideas from their interpretation of the news study.

I admire Tony for many things, but I question some of his decisions. You can bet that we will regret many of them, and they will take a long time to fix. If we’re granted the chance.

And on top of it all I can’t shake the feeling that the days of us winning international awards for reportage are over.

I guess I did have something to say about it.

Well, I was really hoping for your take on Paul Workman. But I suppose the background story is pretty obvious.
