Gnome exposed

Funny, well-written, and amusing, Pedro the Locked Out Gnome always made me uneasy. Isn’t the most insidious propaganda that which is the most enjoyable? It seemed to me that the veil had been lifted and we were getting, amazingly, both a literal and figurative CMG puppet.

Or perhaps it was just a locked-out lad having a laugh?

Looks like we might find out yet: the maker of the gnome started a new blog – The Making of Pedro – where he promises to reveal all, although he seems to have run out of steam already.

I hope he doesn’t chicken out. Surely this gnome is big enough to tell the tale?

I think the CMG were just as stuck in the past as management…the blogs were definitely not their idea. The blogs were from spirited, spontaneous individuals. CMG capitalized on some of them. Management never really figured out how to make the blogs work for them. Maybe a consultant could teach them for next time. ;-)

By coincidence, Pedro arrived in St. John’s this morning as part of the tour referenced above. I took some pictures this afternoon, and tomorrow will be showing him the sights. (Although, I have to confess there’s a real “proof of life” aspect to some of the pictures.)

Ouimet follows through on a common fallacy: that the blogs were sparked by the CMG. Believe me, this is not the case.

As to who’s behind Pedro? I didn’t know it was a secret, but as soon as Ouimet fesses up, I imagine pere Pedro will too!

  • Pedro says:

    Hey Ouimet,

Ordinarly I’d say I was honoured to be mentioned on your blog because up until this point I thought you were reasonably intelligent. But to say I’m CMG propaganda? Come on, are you kidding me? That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

The reason I’m responding to this here and not on my blog is because the whole point of the blog was to offer a laugh to people during a trying time, especially when there was so much petty sniping and negativity on all the other blogs.

And as for exposing the secret behind Pedro, what secret?? Anyone who spent any time on the T.O. picket line (or at the Duke of Argyle for that matter) knows who’s behind me.

The “Making of” site was just another joke to answer those hard hitting questions people had about me like: yes, I really did come from someone’s garden and yes, I did sleep with every single woman pictured on the site.

Looking for revelations there would be like hoping to learn the secret of moviemaking from the director’s commentary on the DVD of “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle”.

The only reason the site hasn’t been finished is because I’ve been busy and the CD I have all the pictures on isn’t working so I can’t actually put the site together.

I hope you can sleep better knowing this now. Sometimes a gnome is just a gnome. Sorry if the truth isn’t as sexy as I am.

    Yours Truly,

    Pedro the Cross-Canada Travelling Gnome.

Wow…are you just having a slow day or something? To say that Pedro made you “uneasy” and to call him a puppet of the CMG?? WTF
Again, wow is all I can say. Next you’ll be all over the Muppets…look out Elmo, cause this blogger is bored and bitchy!

I don’t think that the lockout has been forgotten about, per se. I think it has just moved to a different level. I see things every day at work. I laughed my rear-end off in the ladies room – there is an advertisement in a glass frame on the wall for juicyfruit gum: “Something juicy is going around the office”. Someone slipped in a pic of Rabinovitch’s pratfall at the Heritage Committee on top of the original pic! There is stuff on the bulletin boards all the time. I saw Stursburg reading it while waiting for the elevator.

I’d say nothing has been forgotten, on either side. Wait for JE to rear its ugly head next week. Duck and cover!

I’m confused. It’s a secret who’s behind Pedro? It’s a secret where he lives? is this a joke? everyone knows. and Pedro even made it into said owner’s standup recently.

    open your eyes!

I would imagine, as with many other people, that the blogger behind the Gnome has gotten busy with other things. It’s sad the state to which it has all been forgotten about. I know people are busier now than they were during the lock out, but most of the bloggers, most of the ‘activists’ and apparently the Heritage committee are all busy with other things now. Glad you’re still going!
