xtra: MVP’s puck sluts

“The thing about me,” says Kent Staines, writer and cocreator of CBC’s new series MVP: The Secret Lives of Hockey Wives, “is I know nothing about hockey. Nothing. Zero.”

Thanks for the link, Joe.

Jpod and MVP are no more. If The Border numbers go any further south will it be next? Amazing that Sophie, the worst show on CBC in many years, may survive.

    “irrevlant”

That’s harsh. Didn’t they make the one about the sweater? And the one about the guys building the fence.

Or, restated: Supercilious ginger homosexualist co-creator of a hockey drama knows nothing about hockey, but apparently does know how to cast a frequently shirtless actor with no body fat or body hair (yet also a Playgirl-calibre shoulder-length mane).

The last time something even vaguely reminiscent of this happened, it involved Bryan Singer (not a ginger) and a hot tub, and it ostensibly resulted in very special, very intimate casting for X-Men. But that’™s just a comparison I’™m drawing from memory. In the Canadian context, show co-creators would surely be limited, or limit themselves, to a careful assessment of 8×10 glossies, with ultimate hiring decisions delegated to dispassionate, objective registered casting agents.

I don’t necessarily agree that the NFB is “irrevlant”. It’s certainly not what it used to be, mostly because it is critically underfunded. That the same fate could await the CBC I have no doubt. If it happens, if all the country’s leading cultural institutions are starved to death Canadians will have let it happen. They will deserve to live in the backwater the country becomes.

“let’s hope the programmers try something different next season”

    maybe there won’t be a “next season”…
the CBC is going to turn into another NFB…
    totally irrelevant, totally pathetic…
Canadians have lost their trust, respect and interest
    in the CBC…

The show’s kaput anyway. No shame in that, not every show finds an audience. Let’s just hope the programmers try something different next season.
