The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is looking to fill a part-time contract position of Music Producer for a weekend contemporary jazz program based in Calgary. This is an exciting opportunity to utilize your ability to program a mix of jazz recordings and performance in a manner that will be pleasing to both sophisticated jazz fans and to a new audience. Reporting to the Director of Radio Music, you will be assigned to the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday editions of Tonic. You will be responsible for all aspects of Tonic including host direction, programming disk and live performance recordings, packaging, and editing. To be the successful candidate, you must have the demonstrated ability to program a mix of jazz recordings and live performance recordings in a manner that would be pleasing to both sophisticated jazz fans and to a new, but curious, audience.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • A university degree or equivalent. A degree in Music would be considered an asset.
  • At least 3 years of experience in programming disk and performance segments for network programs combined with a comprehensive knowledge of the recorded jazz catalogue.
  • A thorough knowledge of Canadian contemporary jazz composers and performers and that you have a good understanding and appreciation of the diverse regional jazz music communities across Canada.
  • Experience working with digital audio editing software.
  • Strong studio operations, talent management and studio directing skills.
  • Strong written, verbal and script editing skills.
  • Excellent music/editorial decision-making skills.
  • Ability to program a mix of jazz recordings and performance in a manner that will be pleasing to both sophisticated jazz fans and new and curious audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a small team.
