The flagship television program in Saskatchewan is part of an integrated news service across all media platforms – Television, Radio, and the Web. We want to provide our audiences with a distinct service that is timely, in-depth, accessible and relevant.

What You Do:

CBC Saskatchewan News at 5, 5:30 and 6 is looking for an energetic, disciplined and talented show producer with a proven track record of planning and developing the presentation of a daily news program, ensuring distinctive and innovative ways of covering breaking and developing stories, the journalistic and creative rigour of the program(s), the connection of the program to the community and the reflection of news across media platforms. The producer works cooperatively with reporters and editors in story development and must be able to communicate story and production ideas effectively. The producer reports directly to the Executive Producer of News.

Although this is primarily a TV assignment, there is an expectation to work in an integrated environment. You will be willing and capable of assisting with producing duties on the radio and web platforms as well.

What you bring:

  • Job requires a university degree or equivalent.
  • Job requires five years’ experience of which three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment.
  • In-depth knowledge of local and national news.
  • A thorough passion for, knowledge, and understanding of Canadian politics, and its place alongside both American and wider International political issues.
  • Solid journalistic skills
  • Excellent production skills
  • Previous experience working in a national or local newsroom as a chase producer.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful stories and develop contacts.
  • Must have the ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently.
  • Innovative, flexible and must be a self-starter.
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time under the pressure of breaking and sometimes highly technical news, and still maintain a cooperative relationship with colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure, tight deadline environment; ability to work flexible hours, shifts and overtime is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain contacts at a high level in political circles
  • Must be able to solve problems independently and in-group discussions.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Open to new ideas and approaches.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Bilingualism an asset.
