Your role:

With appropriate direction from the Producer, participate in the production, direction and/or postproduction with the RDI team in the French Ottawa-Gatineau Newsroom. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent judgment are required. There is often a requirement to co-ordinate the activities of others.

Key Tasks:

  • Contribute ideas for content of episodes; participate in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Obtain studios, crews, lines, uplinks, remotes and other technical and production resources required by the program on behalf the Producer and the host.
  • Assist in developing program content including writing, researching, and/or editing. Prepares scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants, develops background, introduction, and line of questioning, conducts or arranges for any necessary research, and ensures the briefing of hosts. Maintains contact files.
  • Processe invoices and obtains authorizing signatures as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.

What you bring:

  • University degree or equivalent in journalism or a related discipline
  • Minimum two years’ relevant experience during which you have become familiar with the fields of journalism, IT, and broadcasting technologies
  • Fluency in French, spoken and written; functional bilingualism (French/English) preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Capital region as well as the Outaouais region
  • Demonstrated ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources
  • Good technical and production skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Able to work independently as well as with members of a production team
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Open-minded to new methods
