PRODUCER (ASSIGNED AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) – NEWS AND CURRENT AFFAIRS.

French Services in British Columbia and the Yukon is seeking an executive producer for its News and Current Affairs department. The ideal candidate is a creative, organized person with outstanding current-events knowledge, a keen interest in the top regional, national and international stories, and the ability to lead a team in an integrated, multiplatform broadcast environment (TV, radio, Web).

What You Do:

  • You will plan, conceive, organize, and/or develop the production and realization of a program segment, program, or series.
  • You will ensure work adheres to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices. Within this context, there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. As a leader, you will regularly coordinate and supervise the work of others as required.
  • Play a key role in continuing to develop the program/newscast format. Develop and execute the strategy for consistent delivery of high-quality programming and sustain significant audience interest in the program.
  • Determine the weekly creative direction of the show, its content and style. As a leader you will marshal the creative energies of a medium-sized team into one vision.
  • Conceive and develop program ideas and concepts.
  • Participate in the preparation of program objectives.
  • Develop program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing. As required, commission writing and/or research.
  • Prepare scripts and determine the style, pace, tempo, lineup and format of the program.
  • Plan, select and request, in collaboration with the unit or business manager, the financial and production/resource requirements, including the creative contributors and other participants, the material and facilities.
  • During program preparation, production and post-production, be responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority.
  • Exercise editorial responsibility as delegated by management.
  • Evaluate all facets of a production, including the performance of program and production personnel, and freelance contributors.

What You Bring:

  • University degree or equivalent with a minimum of five years’ related experience
  • Sound understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s role as Canada’s national public broadcaster
  • Strong production and editorial skills for television and radio, along with a lively sense of programming; demonstrated vetting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in the leadership role and coach staff in a large program unit
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven environment, while maintaining a calm, professional and understanding attitude
  • Able to work well both independently and within a team-oriented setting
  • A passion for critical thinking and innovative storytelling; creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively and cooperatively
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative, and ability to plan, prioritize and organize workflow
  • Able to work flexible hours and weekends as required
  • Have a valid passport and be willing to undertake assignments involving travel internationally and domestically
