Will NBC buy Rogers?

Rogers seems like a very good investment these days. Ripe for a hostile take-over.

Rogers is huge.
It’s involved in the lives of nearly everyone in Ontario.
It makes lots of money.
It doesn’t have Ted Rogers running it any more.
Its services are almost as vital to the average consumer as their Hydro utility.

Did we read somewhere that Prime Minister Harper met recently with Rupert Murdoch?
It doesn’t really matter. We’ll never be told what they actually talked about anyway.

Government and it’s supply of champagne is directly dependent on tax revenues, and tax revenues are derived from business and the employed paying their taxes. Taxes that are only generated if businesses are successful and people are earning a wage.
So naturally, it’s in the government’s best interest to help all businesses thrive, or at least not stand in their way.
Canada, being where it is, is pretty much going to emulate any and every business they see the Americans involved in.
We want what they want, or what they already have.
We’re just a little slower going about getting it. Smaller population and all that.
But there are several ways that government can help fast track progress and industry.
For example, let the Americans and their deep pockets come in and set up shop. Like say, an Apple store.
Everybody wins, right? Employment, good products and services, leasing payments to the local mall, and more taxes to the government.

Check out the magazine for socialites, HELLO Canada.
How many pages are devoted to Canadians? As few as they can get away with, while gleaning as much advertising revenue from Canadian businesses as they can. But that’s not a crime, is it?

Pierre Trudeau was very firm in his view that Canadians be the primary owners of any company setting up shop in Canada.
Today’s government takes a different approach to how we pace our prosperity, and to what extent we’re prepared to relax the rules of ownership. In order to create a higher standard of living for everyone, of course. Including MP’s.

If Quebecor can show that they can make “Fox North” self-sustaining, or close to it, surely Rupert Murdoch would invest in it and expand his empire. And with more investors, Fox North could upgrade, and become even more popular and successful. Instead of Ed The Sock anchoring the nightly news, FN could afford someone the calibre of say, Kevin Newman.

But what does any of this have to do with the CBC?
Only this: the CBC is one of the few things we have that’s NOT FOR SALE.
And that’s a good thing.
Or eventually, we’d all be working for the Disney Corporation.

When Americans are coming to the CBC for their news, it tells you who they are serving….

The CBC may not be for sale, but unfortunately it has long since sold out. If it is no longer culturally Canadian and living up to its mandate then there is no pride to be taken from the fact that the CBC is technically Canadian, and more to the point it no longer serves any good purpose.

The only reason I ridicule the CBC is because I believe we can and MUST do better, and because it is a complacent, arrogant behemoth. The wolves are at the door & I WILL protect it’s right to exist, always. But maybe it’s a necessary wake up call.

I agree 100%. The CBC has become a magnet for ego driven carpetbaggers who don’t give a rats ass about this country and it’s heritage. Lacroix, Layfield-Stewart, Donlon, Stursberg, Ghomeshi, et al are the real enemies of the CBC.

        Absolutely right on.

They were presented with a vision from Stursburg. Some chose to accept orders, others did not.
