Associate Manager, Business Rights and Content Management – TOR02532

This is a one-year contract position.

As an Associate Manager, Business Rights and Content Management, you will work closely with the independent production community and the managers of Business Rights and Content Management to ensure that CBC’s business deals are appropriately documented and legal obligations met. You will be responsible for assisting in the creation and circulation of license agreements as well as ensuring the conditions for CBC’s license fee payments are satisfied, as well as reviewing and assessing the sufficiency of evidence of financing documents.

Key Tasks:

Under the supervision of the Director of Business Rights & Content Management, you will:

  • Draft prelicense and development agreements and amendments as well as letters confirming telecast, creative approvals and project terminations.
  • Be a primary driver of the roll-out and ongoing operations and updates to the Program Contract Management System (PCMS) for development and prelicense contracts, as well as the integration of PCMS with the On-Air system.
  • Assess and advise on the sufficiency of third party agreements and other documentation related to contract payments for prelicense and development agreements.
  • Calculate Federal and Provincial tax credits and review and assess labour costs in independent production budgets.
  • Track costs spent and make recommendations for payments in connection with independent development and prelicense agreements.
  • Propose, implement and maintain business processes and statistical data collection within the scope of the above duties.


  • University or college degree/diploma is required.
  • A minimum of three years of related experience.
  • Experience working in television and film production.
  • Knowledge of program planning and budgeting and contract procedures.
  • Experience dealing with errors and omissions and production insurance and related issues would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of corporate business practices and funding rules of various agencies including the Canada Media Fund and provincial funding bodies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word) and email.
  • Ability to conduct in‑depth analysis of problems and make recommendations.
    Superior organizational skills, detail-oriented, able to prioritize in order to meet strict deadlines while working within a budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to demonstrate solid independent judgement and initiative.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to deal with a wide variety of people with tact and diplomacy.
