GO! has finally GONE!

Finally, there is mercy and this “show” has wrapped. God bless Brent’s stamina.

He’d improve Q immensely. Way more talented broadcaster than Jian.

Brent is an intelligent, skilled broadcaster wasted on GO silliness. Give him The Hour and watch it change! Better yet give him “Q”!!!!

Well, to begin with, for the past few years, the CBC’s been pronouncing the show’s name to rhyme with a synonym for bovine. That couldn’t have helped poor Brent, who, besides a few west-coasters (and we all know how the mother corp feels about that far-off land), was the only one pronouncing it to rhyme with the thing you play a violin with. How could a show succeed when everyone tunes in and finds, instead of the shoe (or, in CBC parlance, “shah-ow”) they were looking for, some program that wasn’t “Gah-ow” at all? I mean, really!

But then, the Saturday mid-morning slot, along with weekdays’ mid-afternoon slot, has always been reserved for programming that makes you want to trudge off to a dark forest, gouge out your eyes and slit your wrists. Of course, Go, I mean Gah-ow, was perfect for the slot. At least, I thought so, especially since it kept coming back season after season. But it must not have been depressing enough for the CBC execs, hence the cancellation. Perhaps they’ll achieve that aim with the next program.

I do hope, however, that the cancellation will give Brent a chance to leave adolescence, grow up and do some real broadcasting. I’ve heard him do guest spots on other programs, and concluded that someone must have been slipping him Quaaludes all those Saturday mornings, because he struck me as quite intelligent and lively on those other occasions.

That movie “Go” from 10 years ago was actually pretty good. I haven’t heard the radio show by the same name, so I can’t comment on that.
