Strombo Continues To Be An Inspiration For Youth To Create Radio That Sucks

Check it out.
The newly re-designed STROMBO.COM.
It’s gone from being completely boring and saying nothing to being completely boring and saying even less.
Is that possible? Yes, it is.
A kind of HTML machine has taken over.
The page is now a radio station, unto itself. Station Strombo.
Are you on George’s wavelength?
It won’t take long to decide, because his “show” starts the moment you hit the page.
A vivid and aural example of the mellow cool that is the george.

Marketing … nothing

Within seconds of listening to this, you want to be somewhere else, doing something else. And if you stay just a bit, you begin to wonder, ‘why is something so unspectacular, so uninteresting, so bankrupt of any immediate or long term redeeming value, on the radio?’
Is there no one prepared to tell george that he doesn’t have a voice for radio?
That he is not capable of creating intimacy on the radio, with his voice.
And his personality is nowhere near apparent enough to warrant a radio show.
He gives a very different george on the radio than he gives on TV.
TV is all george all the time, look at me, I’m next to a celebrity.
On radio, there’s almost no george, to speak of.
He says nothing that matters, and shares the show with two other guys who are even more boring than he is.
The Strombo Radio Experience is a clear illustration of far down the hill radio can go.

Jian.ca is worth $333, according to this site: http://www.sitelogr.com/s/jian.ca

  • Allan says:

The bottom of the page cuts off in Firefox. But I assume that there’s no place in this site to leave a comment.
Everything from George on the internet is an advertisement.

Unsurprising colour scheme on that website. We get it George, you like the colour black.

  • Mick Jones says:

I wonder how much money the CBC spends (wastes) every year on all the various George Strombo productions : The Hour, The WWII documentary, Test The Nation, The Strombo Show. Did I miss any? Is there a Little George on the Prairie in the making?

  • Phony Phone Caller says:

Maybe Jian can sue and get Jian.com instead of having to use Jian.ca since him and Lights are world wide stars. With Lights world wide touring and Jian’s strong ties to the BBC.

    • Anonymous says:

I’m sure that in Jian’s mind, all those people that went to Jian.com were really meaning to go to Jian.ca, but instead were suckered into buying business software by a company trying to cash in on his “popularity’.

  • Anonymous says:

You’d think that with all the exposure that Jian got from the Billy Bob interview that his site would at least be more popular than Tod Maffin’s. Jian has been making it sound like the world fell in love with him after that interview. I guess the truth is something different.

  • Phony Phone Caller says:

I wonder if Jian’s site is more popular than George’s because Jian and Lights visit it so often ?

  • Nigel Tufnel says:

I’ve never heard Georgie’s radio show but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that it probably revolves around him thinking that he has awesomely cool taste in music?

  • The ghost of Joe Strummer says:

Does the CBC keep George employed because he’s a guaranteed “Canadian content” money loser that helps to justify the $1 billion+ that the CBC receives from the government?

  • Howard Stern's Nose says:

Kirsty’s Folly doesn’t realize that the higher the number on Alexa the LEAST relevant/ least amount of hits the site gets. Idiot.

  • Vox Clamantis in Deserto says:

I have no opinion on the music just the terrible production values!

  • E says:

I’m sorry, but you guys are on crack. George is authentic, and relevant. He brings to radio a combination of music no other DJ has. He plays tunes that are not being played anywhere else and takes chances with his mixes.
There is almost no George to speak of on the radio show because it is all about the music. Any true music lover can appreciate that.

    • Andy Travis says:

Pardon me for saying, but that is one seriously crud-ass lousy motherfucking piece of pure goddamn ass-smelling fucking god damn motherfucking crap of a website. Probly designed by some skinny-jeans frig-arse fukking son of a god damn idiot hipster.

I like when it says “Preparing Site Content!” and shows any empty page with a progress bar and a spinning ‘throbber’. Hahahahahaha. Hopefully George paid for this garbage out of his own money ‘cos if mr. and ms. canada are footing the bill, we got ripped off like you wouldn’t believe.

A stinker site for some of the worst radio CBC has ever been responsible for.

I guess I am ‘on crack’ for not being fleeced by George’s crappy distillation of stale, canonical, critcally acclaimed laundry lists of indie music. You might think it’s ‘fair trade organic’, but it sounds like the same old McShit to me.

  • Vox Clamantis in Deserto says:

It also sounds like f£$king shit! Listen to the muffled voice over full of distortion and bad compression pumping artifacts! Not that anyone gives a SHIT about sound at the CBC anymore… it’s only radio, er… I mean “content ” after all… Irt’s what the ipod generation digs man!
