Toronto prefers Classical music to CBC Radio 2

SOURCE: BBM as posted at Hennesey & Bray Communications

Of 21 radio stations in the Greater Toronto market, CBC Radio 2 is tied in 16th place.
Yet the CBC will tell you they know what they’re doing.
Using government funds to create radio programming that nobody wants.

    Yes.

Now maybe not in binding social contracts (less than one year afairs), but yes.

Children of staff get preferential hiring (and hear of jobs before more qualified people)

Teamakers has listed the pairings before. Frank Magazine used to vomit with disgust at “Mommy” Karen (Only Jewish Docs are good Radio docs) Levine blowing kisses through the glass to “Daddy” Michael (Acerbic mouth) Enright (as producer => host on As It Happens and now on Sunday Morning Magazine)

It is the same at Radio-Canada too.

And some people cross the Ottawa, where Joyce Napier is the Radio-Canada Washington correspondent and her husband Neil Macdonald is the CBC’s Washington correspondent. They often do the same story, pasting in the only
interview they could get which was in English. Thank god, Joyce has the good taste to find a french-speaking pundit usually.

Thank you for your candour, and confirming my suspicions that the CBC is an oligarchy.

Do you really think Karen Levine is unqualified as a radio producer? Are you claiming that she got her AIH job because of Enright, or vice-versa? That’s just nuts.

And I like your anti-semitism too, against someone who has tried her whole career to open up the airwaves to diverse voices.

It happens in every work place, especially ones full of workaholic, round-the-clock, intense Type-As – they meet and mate with their own kind. No way to stop it.

Good lord, is everyone at the CBC related?

  • Anonymous says:

Armstrong? He had paternity leave as his wife,Piya Chattopadhyay, had a baby.

  • Anon says:

Why is Peter Armstrong back barking the CBC morning news from 5 am to 8 am? (“world at 8” etc.)
How was he gone 2 months? And is his approach to the CBC megaphone blasting his barks driving listeners away as much as PromoGit?

I actually think Radio 2 is great so I, at the very least, want it. Does anyone here have anything to say about it other than to hack on its comparative ratings? Or would that take critical thought?

    There must be shome mistake!

Oh, wait these are the ankle bracelet numbers. Those machines only hear sounds.
Radio 2 listeners must have the radio too low.

    No?

Ok, Radio 2 listeners only use earphones?

    No?

Well then, they only polled the wrong kind of people. We don’t want to know those low-lifes. They aren’t true Canadians.

What’™s more interesting from that Hennessy and Bray page is the large drop off in market share for Radio 2 in Vancouver. It increased in Toronto but in Vancouver it dropped off significantly. I wonder if the same trend exists in the rest of the country? My guess would be that this mirrors the shift to much more Toronto centric content and personalities that happened on Radio 2 during roughly the same time frame.
