More of The Hour’s self-indulgent tripe

” … and why is he interrupting my segment? Would you do that to Tom Petty?”

Thinking J.D. Roberts is sniffing around for a job at the CBC, retirement villa for ex-Much Music staffers.
He’s gone as far as he can in the U.S., and Mansbridge won’t last forever.

(come back later for video of two adults talking down to a child, exactly the way they do to their audiences)

and here it is …

This is your brain on The Hour.

Only a moron would find this entertaining, but this is what George The Dude would like you to believe is what he would go home and watch on TV. Something this stupid.
Do you think George pulled this kid into the studio because his question was so interesting and important to answer?
Did George have an answer? Or was this purely a stunt intended to waste time with something utterly stupid but oh so cute?
Who is supposed to be turned on by this? Other small children?
Who is the target audience for this crap? People who have a hard time sleeping because they can’t get a Clash song out of their heads? College students?
What was the point of JD Roberts coming on to answer that question? What value did he add to the segment?

Anyone can work @the CBC all you need to prove is that you’ll be willing to “bend over” backwards for the old boys club.If you ever think you might have a chance to do an entertainment/Hour or Q type shows on CBC all they need to see on your C.V is that your male and support the bendover policy.

Yes. You win the big prize! That IS the key to getting a job at the CBC. It is also how people get promoted at the CBC. The people who kiss ass and act giggly to the higher-ups always get the job. It has nothing to do with education, experience or work ethic. It’s the “hey you are my yes girl/guy and I like you” kind of mentality. Look at the managers that get hired off the street – all phoney ass-lickers (and probably ex-CHUM people). And, just look at some of the supervisors and managers that have come up through the ranks – most of them are so full of shit that it’s hard to look at them without laughing. You feel like saying, ‘are you for real’? Instead of promoting the employees who actually show up for work, do a good job, get along with people, and continue to learn and do what they can to make the public broadcaster better, the upper management promotes ‘the ass-kissing yes people’. Those upper management types cannot have hardworking, talented people in positions of authority. That’s going to be trouble for them. They only want the ass-licking, bubble brain types. What a farce! Here’s a message for all the kids out there….run!

It must be discouraging to radio/tv journalism students (who pay enormous tuitions) that he’s proof, once again, that at the CBC, it ain’t what you know, it’s who you know (and how well you kiss ass).

I’ve never gotten the point of this Strombo character. He’s not a journalist, yet they have him analyzing the news and issues of the day. He’s not a comedian, yet they have him doing comedy. His interviewing style is hyperactive, fawning and giggly. I don’t get it. Is there something of quality in this guy that I’m not seeing?

Maybe the idea is that he will hopefully appeal to the Queen/Ossington emo kids, who will tune in, or middle-aged people who want to be like them (like Jian) so that they will tune in….

    • Denise Donlon's Adam's Apple says:

If memory serves me correctly, the genesis of Strombomania was a comment of praise from that beloved manure shoveler Bono after George interviewed him. It was something along the lines of “You kissed my ass quite sufficiently, George!”. Bono being impressed by George impressed the “higher ups” at CBC so much that they made George the irresistible offer to become the heir apparent to the throne of Ralph Benmergui. And thus “The Hour” was born.

  • Poor CBC,Poor George says:

All the content on poor George’s show truly lacking,CBC is lacking/ hurting the poor anchors/broadcasters careers.
Where will they be hired next when the next crunch happens,I heard B.F nowhere is looking for some hard working wooshes.

this week’s version was even worse.

  • MammaryMama says:

Nice to know George doesn’t mind exploiting children to improve his ratings.

  • Allan says:

Roberts is plastic. Hair does not go grey like that on someone who is still relatively young.
Look how weird that hair is in even the above picture.
This is Ryan Seacrest trying to look serious and mature, appearance over substance, the worst part of media today.
Why was he on the show?
It’s just more bullshit from The Hour.

In an earlier sequence George reminds people to turn back their clocks this weekend.
Yeah, like it was important that he bring that up.
But then he makes mention of the Paralympics.
Is anyone in the Hour’s audience interested in that?
    Not a freakin’ chance.
But it’s used as a device to give the appearance of someone who is compassionate about others. It’s fake and manipulative. It’s a celebrity trying to enhance his brand, and not anything to do with what’s of interest to the audience.
    George is a phoney.

Does George ever cover his forearms (roll down his sleeves?). He always looks like he’s about to do the dishes. This distracted me in the Love/Hate documentary.

Funny how George asked the kid about his hair but didn’t ask J.D. about his “hair”…

  • Anonymous says:

I thought it was sort cute and light-hearted.

I also thought the kid looked like George.

  • Anonymous says:

Maybe George is trying to get a job with CNN?

“Forget a village, it takes a nation of millions to raise your kids.”
Great title for a segment! Rolls right off the tongue.

  • Anonymous says:

The poor kid must of thought he was on candid camera. Way to get that village started G.

  • Anonymous says:

    Painful.
Why does The Hour do so much of this filler garbage this season?

  • Sy Sperling says:

The CBC can’t afford to pay for both him and his “hair replacement system”. If he wants to work for the CBC, he’ll have to do it “sans toupee” ala Peter Mansbridge.
