CUTS = ENHANCEMENT

CBC News must cut $7 million in costs AND (?) eliminate more than 70 positions.

“Canadians will be better served by these changes and will continue to receive their news with both the depth and context they demand.”
~ Jennifer McGuire, interim head of news

    I’m going to propose “messaging” to CBC Communications:

    “These cuts are significant and have forced us to make serious changes to the way we operate. We are finding efficiencies where we can, but we cannot maintain our current service levels, given this cut to our funding. Every Canadian who gets news or current-affairs programming from us will notice a difference. We’™re going to keep producing as many programs as we can, but until our revenues increase, we’™re going to be doing less than you have come to expect from us. We know you want us to do more, and we’™re working hard to raise our revenues so we can meet your expectations.”

    The National ratings are up 17%
    from last year.In the much-desired target younger audience, ratings are up 14%.
    The staff at The National was cut 25% yesterday.

    WTF?

    Sorry: If I’™d known the staff briefing was happening today, I would have tuned in and taken notes.

    As a viewer, I don’t believe this to be true.
