Recession Distracts CBC From Wake-Up Call

insidethecbc doesn’t explain where it got these shocking charts, which vividly display the real “death spiral” of CBC Radio One.

According to the graphs, at the rate at which the CBC was rapidly losing audience share before the recession hit …..

….. by this summer no one would be listening to it any more.

And thus are the critics firmly answered by the users of the service.

Am I just dense, or was the original post (Recession Distracts…) meant to be ironic/sarcastic? CBC R1 has NEVER rated so well as the last book (R2 is another story). That’s one key reason the pending cutbacks are so f***ing tragic: Canadians WANT/NEED AND ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR the kind of commercial-free, public service media CBC/SRC Radio provides (even if they’re understandably less devoted to the commercial TV version). 80%+ of taxpayers use one aspect of CBC/SRC every week; there is no other public expenditure that is so widely consumed (except maybe roads).

I have to admit, even as someone who doesn’t mind the odd Allan post, 2 posts on how crappy insidethecbc is, in a row, over nothing, is not the best use of anyone’s time.

The blog is run by one guy. Sure, it sucks. Let’s move on.

in what universe does it matter who made the charts?

  • Allan says:

you’re saying Paul made the charts? based on the link to the PDF?

woah, ratings went down in the summer?! death spiral! death spiral!

“insidethecbc doesn’t explain where it got these shocking charts”

Except they do, moron, with a link to the source material at the end of the article.

    Sheesh.

Then all we’re seeing here is the usual summer drop-off?
    While Toronto never loses interest.
And The Point had no bearing on the ratings?
OK, the glass is half full again.

The comparisons made in the industry are spring vs. spring, fall vs. fall, not spring vs. fall
