Test the Nation: in situ

Test the Nation will be on CBC live at 8pm on Sunday.

Drop by this blog an hour beforehand, and I will have a special report from the pre-show activities.

And to all the foreign bloggers arriving this weekend, “Welcome to Toronto.”

Yes, it looks like you’re both right. What were the chances?

    Thanks for the encouragement, BB!

To be honest I’m a little wary of this “best blog” business. There seems to be no money in it, and the best blogs in Canada weren’t even nominated. But mine is by far the best blog on that list of nominees.

For best media blog, I voted for The Book of Don, which I never, never miss.

  • Blistering Barnacles says:

Guys, play nice. There are obviously two award sites. I was referring to Ouimet’s link at the this blog to the Canadian Blog Awards, as was Anon 10:37pm. Can we move on now?

“what you and your ilk haver to learn is that just wishing something to be true doesn’t make it so”

    I defer to http://2007.weblogawards.org/
just scroll down to Best Canadian Blog, or you can visit
http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/ where you will observe a logo proudly proclaiming that SDA is indeed the recipient of the Best Canadian Blog award for 2007 – you should let them know you’re a blogger for the CBC and that the voting isn’t over yet. Good luck with that.

  • Anonymous says:

Actually, Quimet Guy, round one of voting is still open.

What you and your ilk have to learn is that just wishing something to be true doesn’t make it so.

  • Blistering Barnacles says:

Well, congrats to the Small Dead Animals Blog, then and kudos to Ouimet for being nominated. And no kudos to me for my lame attempt at negative vote humour.

I’m not with the CBC so maybe someone with the organization can respond to your extreme accusations. I’m a rather jaded voter, and want the CBC and other media outlets to keep a close eye on our politicians, whatever stripe they are. And yes, I expect journalistic integrity. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don’t. That’s life.

    I wish you well.

It’s so cute when people think they’re Conrad Black…

“Quimet’s up for Best Canadian Blog….
sorry Quimet Guy, I’m not sure how you’ll register a negative vote”

Sorry blistering barnacles, the 2007 Best Canadian Blog was again awarded to Small Dead Animals for the fourth year in a row.

With respect to your discombobulated query on “how to register a negative vote” one only needs to cast a ballot for “someone else” – a democratic principle which is inconsonant with those who subscribe to the principles of socialist totalitarianism – the most salient example of which could be the state broadcaster’s seditious effort to defeat a sitting government with duplicitous intent
as evidenced by the conjury and deceit of CBC News when they attempted to connect Stephen Harper to the Mulroney-Shreiber affair.

Maybe I should not have procrastinated filling in the application form.

On the other hand, the show I should have been on was the one on English usage. (Me flunk Test the Nation? That’™s unpossible.)

  • Blistering Barnacles says:

Ouimet’s up for Best Canadian Blog – congratulations. “In 2007, each person gets one vote for their favourite blog, in each category. Unlike 2006, you do not get one vote per day, you just get one per round.” Darn it, I can’t vote early and often any more.

Sorry, “Quimet guy”, I’m not sure how you’ll be able to register a negative vote! Better still, send Ouimet a guest blog article…

    The “Quimet” guy is back?
    This site is hilarious lol.

“I just took the test today… I got 46 and I’m an idiot”

    can’t argue with that

  • Jesse Hirsh says:

Hey Allan, you’re up early for a Saturday? Looking forward to meeting you as well tomorrow…

  • Kevin says:

Definitely a boon to the ol’ stalkage. If only you could send flowers and badly-kerned diatribes directly to a website, the circle would be complete!

  • Allan says:

    Tod Debuts Tod TV!
(Take that ! Test The Nation.)
    This is absolutely stunning.
Tod sneezes, does the dishes, plays Abba.
Riveting. Not to be missed. (and I’m not kidding)
The gift that keeps on giving.
But how long can he keep it up.
    Bravo, Tod!

Now to do this right, Tod, broadcast yourself providing commentary as you watch Test The Nation Sunday night.

  • Kevin says:

I was on the telly once too. Everyone is shorter than you think and you should probably bring your own Tabasco.

  • Ouimet says:

    Allan –

I just took the test today. You’ll be fine. I got 46 and I’m an idiot.

    Just remember to answer (D).

    (D)!

  • Allan says:

You will tune in anyway, Kevin, and you’re just trying to rile me up.
But OK. I have been quiet about this, partly because …
I am like TOTALLY FREAKING OUT.
I don’t deserve to be there, it seems like a huge mistake to go, I’m not ready for my close-up, I don’t know anything, some of these bloggers creep me out, what am I going to wear, and what the hell is gonna happen in the course of being locked up with all these people for six hours two of them on a live television show on a national network that no one watches or takes seriously yet watches anyway and takes way too seriously, it’s all HIGH ANXIETY and will be over and forgotten in 24 hrs. and those chairs in the bleachers look uncomfortable and thank god there are so many other people there to distract from me, and if I use swear words in this post then for sure Molly won’t link to this blog from the Facebook group of ” REL=”nofollow”>Jesse Hirsh and Reply

  • Kevin says:

Allan doesn’t actually represent the CBC. But thank you for playing!

“watching a pointless football game is for people who have a vacant intellect and a numb palate”
Now you know why the CBC lost its CFL contract.

  • Kevin says:

Test The Nation is the place to be

You’re disturbingly mellowed out Allan. Is it a medication thing, or are you just lulling us all into a false sense of security before dumping a bucket of chum over Tod while shouting “Attica!” repeatedly?

Because that I would totally tune in for.

  • Saskboy says:

Doh, I’m competing with the NHL?

Ouimet, when you see me, tug on your ear or something to let me know it’s you, ok? ;-)

  • Allan says:

Watching a pointless football game is for people who have a vacant intellect and a numb palate. There’ll always be another and it makes no difference to your life.
Test The Nation is the place to be – unique, fun – the Howdy Doody Show with a peanut gallery of people ranging from the smart to the absurd – and Samantha Bee!!!

The reason for the Sunday slot was by necessity. It could only be done while the daily staff were away before you announce to over 200 people on the same floor “if you have to go to the bathroom, do it now ’cause we’re locking the doors.”

  • Anonymous says:

The entire continent will be watching the NFL playoffs
on Sunday night. Which programming genius picked the time-slot for Test the Nation? Even Dick and Carol will be watching the NFL broadcast on CTV.
