Do you smell something?

Johnny Happypants tips us off to this vaguely condescending Hollywood Reporter article written by smug Americans. But they get the numbers right.

That smell? It’s stinky ratings for new CBC shows.

264,000 for Triple Sensation. 450,000 for No Opportunity Wasted. 306,000 for St. Urbain’s Horsemen. This is Stursberg’s year, remember. None of these projects have any Slawkovian influence.

As someone pointed out, remember that 1 million viewers threshold from last year? It was only a few months ago that we were gunning for the best ratings in 10 years. Maybe it’s true that 500,000 is the new 1,000,000?

What do we have left? MVP, kind of a Desperate Hockey Housewives thing. The Border. jPod. Still time to turn it around, but the pickings are getting slim.

Can anyone work some Cumulative Ratings magic on these, before it’s too late?

Stursberg is too divisive a figure for the post, comes with too much baggage. Chalmers is a realistic contender, right gender and the Tories want to earmark any new CBC money for radio in the regions.

“both in the running for Pres.”? I guess one only has to check their respective travel schedules and see who has been doing the most brown-nosing at the PMO.

“The new President will have no choice but to sack the Eng. TV executive…” A little scarey news on Hallo eve…. the rumour is that both Radio and TV VP’s are in the running for Prez…. oooo scarey, very scarey……

Sturburg’s mantra is to hold the local CBC newsrooms to the same staffing levels and ratings accountability as private broadcasters. What’s good for the goose is good for the fat fucking gander. Clean out their desks and throw the bums out on the street.
Then hire real broadcasters to program the CBC.

Somehow, I don’t think anyone is really asking.
I was in three different industries where there was… a lack of success. Business explanations were always plentiful. In each case, however, you could always feel a simple overall disdain growing towards the lessening customer base.

Anyone else notice that you can order the entire season of ‘the Tudors’ from Indigo for $22.50 -it isn’t out until Nov. 20 but…

What is even more aggravating are the internal mail outs desperately trying to spin these numbers as a success. The pathos is unbearable.

The new President will have no choice but to sack the Eng. TV executive despite the outrageous cost of the severance packages. I think they should be forced to stay until they hit their targets.
