Rabinovitch planning early exit?

From Our Public Airwaves’ latest newsletter:

CBC insiders say that Bob Rabinovitch is considering an early exit as corporation president before his term ends in November by taking advantage of unused annual leave.

The rumour mill says Rabinovitch wants to leave early because he’s bored with the job, is a lame duck anyway and is busy with his duties at McGill University, where he is also chair of the board.

If he does leave CBC early, the board can appoint an acting president. Most likely candidates are Richard Stursberg, Executive Vice-President of CBC Television and Sylvain Lafrance, Executive Vice-President of French Services.

While I wonder who these “insiders” are, it sounds more like wishful thinking than anything else. Would Bobby ever tell anyone he was bored and powerless?

I doubt it but who knows? He’s said stranger things before.

You might remember a clip I posted late last year from Michael Thorne of prog-rock band Dayjob Orchestra, where he put words in the President’s mouth. As Tod pointed out to me last weekend, the clip has been removed from Youtube due to a copyright claim by Canadian House of Commons. To use cpac clips for parody you need the express prior written approval of the Speaker of the House of Commons.

While I’m a strong supporter of copyright, I’m a much stronger supporter of making fun of people so I’m happy to see that Michael reposted the clip on his MySpace site. It would be a shame for this masterpiece to be lost to future generations.

And to show my support for our revenue-generating enterprises I’ve also posted the clip on dorks.com to see if it can get some clicks.

Annual leave remaining ???? Has anyone really checked out what’s remaining – its easy – just substract the number of days Bobby was at Mt. Tremblant last winter alone from the days in the year. As for the job for the interim – Let the new Chair fill in – after all Bobby did the interim chair job twice. Let new blood hold the fort in neutral till a new mandate and appointment comes in.
Be careful – Dicky has lobbied for this top position many times in the past w/ the PMO.
As for Bobby he’s probably gonna get “Sirius” in his carreer !

early? If I remember correctly, he’s well into a second term. He should have left long ago.

Why appoint anybody in the interim? If Bobby left tomorrow and never came back who would notice? Can somebody tell me one thing he did during his tenure that was a success? (Falling out of the chair was funny, but I don’t think we were laughing with him.) And beyond that, what’s the pressing agenda?
