Rest in peace, Krista

I think everyone was pretty shocked when they heard the news about Krista Harris on Monday. I know I was. It was only a few weeks ago that I was praising her as one of the bright lights. Regular readers will know I don’t do that very often, but this was the second time for Krista.

I wanted to write about Krista on Monday, but I didn’t know what to say. Everything I started sucked, so I gave up. Who was I to say anything, anyways?

And it has to be said: we all know there is something weird about this story. Everything around it is weird. Maybe it’s just one of those weird things that happen in life. Maybe.

But from the moment it was announced on Monday, there has been a surge of visitors to this site. Initially they were from behind the CBC firewall, but pretty soon they came from all over Canada, then the world, finding my site through Google, zeroing in on those pages where I had mentioned her.

It never let up. This has nothing to do with me, it has everything to do with a certain accountant from the Maritimes and the people who love her and are trying to find out what happened, looking for information, or some kind of confirmation, or perhaps validation.

But the sad truth is that it was just stupid and sudden and tragic.

And she will be missed for a long time to come.

Comments are open, but if you want to write about Krista you can leave a message on I Love Radio, or contribute to the memorial that will be presented to her parents.

Ask the VP of English TV… he’s been really indiscreet about the whole thing… showing exactly what kind of person he is.

Does anybody know what really happened? The carefully worded statements in the press release seem to be trying hard not to say it was a suicide. But I could be wrong. It seems like a such a tragedy regardless.

Thank you for this. I don’t think Krista ever tried to represent anything or to be anyone other than herself–but her death has had an enormous impact throughout the CBC and I think we will continue to grapple with it for a long time to come.
