Ratings are for pussies

As we all know, Nielsen TV ratings are for sycophants. They are also unreliable.

And fascinating. The good news is the overnights are now posted on the CBC intranet for all to see. Brought about by Richard Stursberg, I have no idea why this bit of openness has taken so long, but I am glad to see it.

I was also glad to see The Secret Mulroney Tapes get Coronation Street numbers. I thought this thing was fascinating as a historical document, as a treatise on politics, as a meditation on the role of media and journalism in Canadian society, and as a study on the differences between one’s private and (very) public life.

And boy, that Mulroney can swear.

What about displaying ratings for our pathetic websites? A lot of money, energy, and resources go into that black hole. It often doesn’t even tell us what’s on tv or the radio. Oops…is that the point.

    one for all –
    Yes, only for CBC people.

    Hey Bee –
Yes I’m still here, even though I’ve promised to quit and posted as much on numerous occasions. Thanks for the kind words.

    Justin –
It made me laugh so I went with it, even though it tricks the reader. In fact, that makes it funnier.

Great headline – I was hoping for something a bit more dramatic though =|

The overnights are not posted for all to see unless by all you mean only CBC people.

I also enjoyed the Secret Mulroney Tapes. My favourite part was when Mansbridge adjusted his pants and tucked in his shirt instead of shaking Mulroney’s hand when everyone stood up after the interview. Maybe if Peter wasn’t having pants problems he would have shook the PM’s hand, but I guess I’ll never know. I still respect you Peter, when your shirt comes untucked from sitting… yeah that sucks.

Funnily enough, the show actually brought out the conservative in me. But I would rather have been watching that scallywag Sally on the Street nonstop like when y’all were locked out – and it was a toss up cuz APTN was broadcasting Atanarjuat COMMERCIAL FREE.
