CBC News

Now, don’t get me wrong: I like the BBC as much as anyone.

But this BBC news feed has simply got to go. And it will. Soon.

We are working on CBC News and will have it running. Soon.

Just be a patient for a little longer.

Sorry, that last comment wasn’t ment to be anonymous!

  • cbc mama says:

Well, I’ve watched it the past two nights – and you’re right Anonymous – it is a “lousy makeshift operation.”
The mini newscast at 21:00 ET hosted by David Kyle is a pathetic joke. I cannot believe this is the best they could do with a whole week to prepare! Bad lighting, not a soul to be seen in the newsroom and lamentable content. Very mediocre writing and switching too. Shame, shame on the higher-ups. Guess they forgot to do some dry runs. Cells and supers are obviously beyond the capacity of CBC’s best and brightest. And this business of filling the newcast with b-level stories from Quebec and Moncton is too lame. Lineup skills are also a bit rusty. My grade on both editorial and technical efforts: D minus.

BTW are you using CBC computers to write this blog? I ask because you say you are living inside the CBC building.

The CBC has the means and the ability to monitor all internet computer transactions.

Do you think they still can stil do so with their scab workers?

“Just be a patient for a little longer.”

Either you are with the locked-out workers or not, but you can’t play both sides of the fence. You can’t shit on management and then tell your readers to “hang on” for some scab version of the news.

And no, viewers will not call it CBC News. They will call it what it is: A lousy, makeshift operation put on the air by people who are forced to work there, not because they love the news.

And I’m sure he’s a fine chap and he’d rather be in Medicine Hat or wherever he’s from, but the “deer-in-the-headlight” anchor just ain’t ever going to host a CBC News program.

Failing the idea that..hey, maybe the managers should spend their efforts on getting the actual CBC News people deliver the news, I’ll take the BBC over a scab version of the CBC News anytime.

The Naked Gord Program – I think that they would be happy to see fans on the picket line. Go down and ask them them – they won’t bite.

Laurence – I’ve come to similar conclusions, but I’m not ready to shut it down yet. Keep watching.

Anonymous – Of course, you are right. But I call it CBC News, as that’s what the public sees it as.

jenkew – Thanks for the kind words, hon.

Tea Maker Hater – Go fuck yourself, jackass.

  • Tea Maker Hater says:

Yes, tea maker, your blog sucks.
You act as though you’re some kind of mole.
But you don’t provide any insider news.
    CBC News coming soon?
Unless you’re suggesting there’s a deal in the offing, CBC News is not coming soon.
For someone in such a unique position–inside the broadcast centre as opposed to outside–can’t you offer anything more ‘inside’ or insightful or interesting or NEW?
    What’s the point?

  • jenkew says:

If you go only by the options in Laurence’s reply, I urge you to please choose option one. I like this blog because it’s succinct and thoughtful. And because you can write.

I look forward to seeing the er, news, on Monday night. I am curious to know which managers are out in the field reporting on what matters to Canadians. And what Canadians are telling them.

  • Anonymous says:

No matter what replaces the BBC, it won’t be CBC News. The people who write, report and break CBC News are not allowed to go to work. We are on a picket line instead of a deadline.

Call it what you want. But it is not CBC News. And while you are in the broadcast centre, tell the management bingo callers that this isn’t a “Labour Disruption” as they keep calling. We are locked out. This is a “Management disruption.” Labour hasn’t disrupted anything.

  • Laurence says:

It strikes me that you’ve reached a bit of as dilemma here.
Your blog has become ‘noticed’. because of it’s unique ‘inside management’ postion.
    You have 3 choices:
1/ Maintain complete integrity and honesty and endanger your career.
2/ Become the ‘management’ propaganda conduit.
or 3/ shut down until ‘1’ becomes feasible again
My belief is that it’s too late for 1 or 3.
I’m sorry because I think your blog has been really fine so far. Try not to follow ‘2’ too far. That’s a hellish road down there.

  • The Naked Gord Program says:

Agreed. The BBC has to go. It was a novelty for about 5 minutes but it’s it’s become dull quickly.

I don’t know what’s wrong with the “Mother Corp’s” management at this point. This shouldn’t have been allowed to get to this point to begin with (the lockout) and the fact they’ve done such a half assed result with news coverage proves that the problem lies on the management level and not the employees who have been locked out from a job that they should be doing this very momemt (well not now since it’s early Saturday morning at 4:25 AM :P but my point still stands).

Well I’m done rambling – Just wanna say that you have this viewers support and that I hope you’ll be back soon.

    Naked Gord

p.s. – are CBC fans allowed to join the protests in the Toronto and Welland offices?
