Allan: He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands

Another from the tirelessly fearlessly Allan
Enjoy.
~O

Break out the gas masks.
Avi Lewis is back.
Reduced to a half hour following the “success” of last fall’s The Big Picture, Avi returns to CBC Newsworld on Monday night with a brand new show entitled On The Map.
But it’s not the satirical send-up of cartography that one might expect.
Instead, audiences will re-visit the education they began at Live 8 and learn about the G8 Summit taking place in Germany, and the lessons will continue four nights a week.
He’ll be joined by colorful academics to discuss the merits of China extending maternity leave to a full 15 minutes, and re-affirm that, yes, everything really is quite hopeless.

No issue is too big for Avi, while the small ones were already taken by The Hour.
And we’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in this country, and in his generation, more knowledgeable about the machinations of the world economy, and the evils of globalization.
Like, where would you even begin to look for someone like that?
And who helped him with that logo?
In-house or out?
Either way, the show may not cause a riot in the ratings, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed for some good television.

    “On the Map?”
    Avi Lewis?
Is everything about this insanely boring???

so i don’t know avi, and I agree 4 days a week is a bit much, but at least the concept is something CBC should be doing at least part of the time – dealing with heavy issues of relevance to canadians.

and they’re making the show available online, good for them! (even if wmv; and with broken RSS; and no easy embedding, but still).

just watching now, yes he is annoying.

I’m happy to report that the graphics, logo and website were all inside CBC jobs.

If you miss the show on CBC Newsworld you can watch it online the next day.

while I am a fan of Avi Lewis, he is not popular and certainly not going to draw in the big numbers. What I don’t understand is why they always start BIG with these new programs, by starting with four days a week. No one is going to tune in to this every day/4 days a week. Once a week, possibly…

Why would anyone watch him? And that goes for Evan Solomon as well. Same old.. Same old.. Preaching (literally) to the choir.

    Ratings Riot?

NW numbers are so low they’re not even reported to staff daily.

Looks like there’s about 60 people working on this show and the average age appears to be about 23. Maybe they’ll do some promotion on Radio 3.

I’ll also not be submitting to moderated comments anymore, thank you very much.

Yah, Counterspin was fun & all, but it held our Avi back. After one fucking year he ran away; Far, far away.

That is what I expect of dear Avi…and I’ll not watch his show for that reason. Why give him a chance when it’s not what he’d rather be doing anyway?
