FUNCTION:
The Associate Producer/Technician participates in daily production of the Maritime radio program, Close to Home, selecting appropriate music for the show daily; including presenting appropriate story ideas; researching and preparing stories for broadcast; on air presentation; writing scripts, intros, promos, questions, background, etc.; logging and administrative work as required. He/she is responsible for all technical functions related to daily live on-air program as well as assisting with remote program recordings. Any and all functions can be done simultaneously. The individual must adhere to CBC technical and CBC journalistic standards while exercising both initiative and independent judgment. This is a part-time position, scheduled Monday to Friday from 12:15 to 16:15.
The Associate Producer/Technician:
- Organizes the participation of interviewees, develops background, introduction, and line of questioning, conducts or arranges for any necessary research, and ensures briefing of producer/host.
- Assists in developing program content especially music that fits the show’s mandate which is to play all maritime music that is connected to concerts/events.
- Prepares scripts; ensures adherence to the style and format of the program.
- Edits and mixes, or directs the editing and mixing of audio elements.
- Prepares, sets up, maintains and operates technical equipment or facilities and ensures their proper operating condition for daily shows and remote broadcasts.
- Carries out work required to extend the reach of the show through social media.
- Performs other production, technical or administrative tasks associated with the smooth functioning of the programming unit.
We are looking for a candidate who has the following:
- Strong journalistic skills, and a particular interest in community-based programming and current affairs.
- Demonstrated ability to develop program content.
- Ability to gather sound, actuality, streeter and other tape.
- Demonstrated ability to operate, tech and direct a show.
- Well-versed in DALET, including the ability to edit, record and mix.
- Minimum two years relevant experience during which the candidate would have gained exposure to journalism, technical and computer software technology of radio.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work as part of a team.
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility and innovation.
- Knowledge and interest in various programming platforms is an asset.
- Ability to multi-task is essential.
- Enthusiastic and adventurous nature.
- Ability to prioritize.

- Strong creative ability.
This is an English language position. The ability to speak, read and write in French would be an asset.
