Form letter sent to those bitching about Barbara Budd

(12 posts)
  1. First, we'd like to thank you for listening to As It Happens and your
dedication to the show. We appreciate your concern about Barbara Budd
leaving the show at the end of April, and understand that As It Happens'
listeners will miss Barbara as a co-host.

Some of you have asked for more details regarding our decision. Our policy,
like most organizations, is not to publicly discuss specific details about
matters affecting our employees- we think this is an important principle of
privacy and respect for all of our employees.

As It Happens remains committed to bringing its audiences the very best in
current affairs programming through its unique approach to telling the story
behind the story. Barbara joined As It Happens 17 years ago, after replacing
a much loved and respected co-host, and was soon embraced by listeners for
her own unique style. Throughout her 26 years with the CBC, Barbara has made
a significant contribution and along with our thanks, we offer her our very
    best wishes.

We expect to have more information soon about who will be the new As It
Happens co-host. In the meantime, Barbara has asked that you send photos of
yourself to her so that she may take memories of YOU with her, and can put
the 'face to the ears' of the show's loyal audience. You can send your
photos to aih@cbc.ca <mailto:aih@cbc.ca> or via "snail mail" at:

As It Happens, Box 500 Station A Toronto, Ontario M5W 1E6.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us. We will
share them with the program's producers and senior CBC Radio management.
Barbara's last show is April 30th, we hope you'll tune in.

  2. No offense, but people that listen to CBC Radio One at 6:30 pm are weirdos. 6:30 pm is "Dinner Time" for us normal people.

  3. Lots of others eat at 6 and listen to AiH as they clean up afterwards and relax post-dinner. Normalcy is in the eye of the beholder you offensive jerk.

  4. 6:30pm for dinner? Must be nice to work for the government--most of us are still working or commuting home from work at that time and As It Happens makes for a nice early evening companion.

  5. There is a repeat at midnight of AIH. A most pleasant lullaby.

And who eats right after rushing home? Indigestion certainly.
We wait until a more civilzed time, about 7 pm or so and take time to relax after the commute, wash up, enjoy the Barbara Budd cocktail, and ease into the evening.

It used to be God Damn the CPR, but nowaydays it's God Damn the CBC.

    Go Habs!

  6. I think I'd like to take exception to the claim that 6:30 is "dinner hour."

    1) If 6:30 doesn't work, don't forget that it's on at 5:3o ET on Sirius, and every hour thereafter on one of the various MP3 streams. Dinner Hour, indeed.
    2) No one's heard of podcasts?

While I'm at it, I'll miss Barbara as well...just like I miss MaryLou. But honestly, I'm astounded that anyone would bother to write to complain about Barbara's retirement, as though a complaint to the contrary would change her mind. Jeesh...can't anyone retire?

  7. CBCListener: Barbara didn't retire.

“I would never, never, ever walk away from a show that I still truly love. This is difficult for me,” Ms. Budd said. She paused, then said, “If there is something they see that they want in the program that requires other skills, then I understand that. But it doesn’t mean that I’m not sad to leave.”

  8. sometimes, actually many times, I don't like the CBC ...

  9. Yeah, it's like drowning in cancer.

The Globe article? Sure, you can get Barbie's spinjob there, but know that nobody who works with her is sad to see her leave. Anyone at that farewell party is there for cake and schadenfreude.

  10. The form letter is a rehash of the original press release.

CBC Radio must be one toxic workplace. I've never seen such a backhanded farewell as that by Natasha Fatah. She may be just towing the company line, but still, that's cold.

  11. Natasha reveals too much. Ducking under desks? Employees lashing back at each other? Eeeep! And I guess the musicians turned broadcasters will be the next to go...

  12. Photos - shmotos!! Barbara wanted her job back...not photos of her fans!
