So how is it that George can play any crap he wants?

Rich Terfry = Max Headroom
George = Johnny 'Dr. Fever' Caravella -

um. radio - music selection - is often made by its presenters. and hosts. this pays off in credibility and real connections with audience and the music. that's how it works best.
i can think of many many examples of how that used to happen at R2.
maybe you don't know that. puppet hosting on the scale it happens now
at R2 is new and despicable.
the playlists on ALL shows are now managed by a small shallow politburo.
maybe you don't know that too. -
And it shows. I've stopped listening in the mornings because I was hearing the same songs over & over...now I listen to my ever changing playlist on my Ipod.

Sure, it used to happen that way at R2. It still does. But both back in the "glory" days and today, it mostly happens for shows that are only on the air once a week. The shows that are on every day have, for quite a few years (and I include the "old" R2 in those years), and with few exceptions, been created by a team of people. It's impossible for the host to do it all.
On the other hand, I completely agree that the current playlists are utter crap. Although I disagree with you on the "ALL shows" point.
