A fake news show currently airing on CBC Radio, called “This Is That”, has actually fooled people into believing that their reports are the real thing. Says Pat Kelly, one of the actors, “… unless you’re really paying attention to the content itself, you’ll probably just assume that what you’re hearing is all true.”

Today, July 21st, is a little late to be pulling an April Fool’s joke.
But in a news story published by Canoe News, it becomes increasingly apparent that it’s impossible to tell what’s reality and what isn’t when we read about the CBC.

Is it truth or is it fiction?

OTTAWA – CBC is doing a really good job of serving the public, according to the CBC.
The public broadcaster commissioned an online survey of 527 opinion leaders who overwhelmingly hold positive opinions of the CBC.
“I have no idea how I ended up on the list,” said one participant who asked not to be identified.
A spokesman for CBC tells QMI Agency that 1,973 CBC stakeholders including governments, academics and other media outlets, were invited to participate from lists drawn up internally.
Asked for their overall views on CBC, 80% said they hold positive impressions. These impressions included agreeing with statements such as “CBC provides value for money to Canadian taxpayers” and “CBC creates programming that is relevant to me.”
A spokesman says the purpose of the survey is to help guide strategic planning for the future of the organization.
The official refused to release the cost of the survey claiming it to be “commercially sensitive.”

He’s not part of creating a new independent FM.

He’s not producing any documentaries or even fun shows.

He’s not taking us anywhere.

He’s not being funny, ever.

He’s not writing a blog or his own lines on The Hour.

He’s unable to prevent people in Los Angeles from reading The Tea Makers.

He’s not signing for new work that will prevent him from returning to Toronto in two months to put the country through another year of The Hour, though we wish he were.

After 30 years, Neil has become the CBC’s Senior Washington correspondent, and is nearing the end of his career.
He’s gruff, and not afraid to speak his mind, though much of what’s on his mind can already be found pretty much anywhere.
When Norman Spector observed that women were taking prominent positions as national television news anchors while the CBC is still clinging to the antiquated notion that Mansbridge is too good to be shown the exit sign, Neil felt compelled to write a letter to the editor, kissing up to everyone mentioned in the article.
Lisa LaFlamme and Dawna Friesen are “outstanding”.
Peter Mansbridge is “superb”.
He adds that “as a career reporter, I’m encouraged to see Canadian television news maintain a highly visible meritocracy.”
The meritocracy to which he refers, “wherein appointments are made and responsibilities assigned to individuals based upon demonstrated intelligence and ability”, dictated that in the case of Global television, no one in Canada, regardless of gender, was good enough to replace Kevin Newman on their evening news.
Instead, Global stretched their hiring hands across the border to choose a reporter that most people in Canada have never heard of.

Neil, who prides himself in being a straight-shootin’ journalist, is of the view that appointments in our broadcasting industry are based largely on merit.
Which makes it puzzling that no network has asked him to be the anchor of anything.

But then, he doesn’t even have an Honourary Doctorate, like George.

Despite several emails to several people at the CBC, not one of them was ever responded to, not even as having been received.

Yet lo and behold, it isn’t just a new picture of Jian Ghomeshi that’s different about the new, improved “Q” web site:

as compared to the line it replaces, still in use on Jian’s own web page for his fans:

The change comes about without any acknowledgement that the earlier statement, which had been up there for nearly a year, was in any way misleading.
The sentence was simply altered, as if on a whim, by some enterprising revisionist copy writer.
Now we can all pretend it never happened.

The CBC aligns itself with the integrity of British Petroleum – pay the fine, without admitting guilt.

Burton Cummings has a long ways to go to catch up to George Stroumboulopoulos.

But neither are anywhere near high school drop-out, now Chancellor, Peter Mansbridge.

For all three, school’s out … FOREVER!

But when you lay claim to writing editorials and opinions for some of the biggest newspapers in the world, then it’s a curious thing when no one in your own country can name one thing you stand for.
All anyone can say for sure about Jian Ghomeshi is that he’s a cheerleader for more funding of the arts. Not surprising really, since he’s an eager recipient of much of that funding. And it suits his current job, exploiting and promoting the fame of other artists.

But as a man who proudly carries the dual identity of an Iranian-Canadian, and feigns to be viewed as a political intellect, he’s sure silent when it comes to the more real and serious issues.
