Sudbury mayor ‘pissed’ at CBC plans

Well, John Rodriguez, who wouldn’t be? “ ‘We’re even having people from the private broadcast industry come up to us and say, “If you guys don’t do it, where will we get our news?” ’ ”

Glad this story finally came out — CBC management and the union were working together really hard (nice to see them getting along) to keep this under wraps. But what didn’t come out is that the exact same thing is happening in Thunder Bay, Windsor, Sydney, etc, etc. I doubt this will have any impact, though. In fact, hearing rumours the voluntary retirements haven’t gone very well…didn’t get the numbers they wanted — and more cuts are likely. Maybe these small stations will be outright closed like management wanted to do in the first place. The, the Mayor will REALLY be pissed.

The whole hook for this article is the “nickel-and-diming” in Sudbury headline.

    Poor chaps.
