Anonymous 12:23 – No thanks. Speaking as someone who visits both Denis’ blog as well as Tea Makers, I’d prefer he not be banned.

“the place will survive the odd visits from the DMC” 3:12 PM 12/04/08

No doubt about it. DMC’s visits are odd. His delusional and narcissistic sense of self worth is a bit creepy and he has some issues as evidenced by his compulsive eating disorder. Nothing that a prozac prescription can’t fix.

Denis takes comfort in believing that he is one of “the most important people in the television racket”. More important than you.
And he’s already declared that he’s smarter than anyone involved here, for those not yet convinced by reading his blog.
It’s always interesting to hear from him, even when he’s not being very helpful.
And it seems that he likes Tea Makers.
The place will survive the odd visits from the DMc.

No, nobody gets banned. Only individual comments might very occasionally be removed, possibly with an invitation to rewrite them.

I would like to see DMC banned from the Teamakers.
Let’s make the Teamakers a DMC Free Zone.
No more DMC. Cut him off. He’s obviously a jerk and a first class shit disturber.
    Ban DMC Now.

This blog long ago descended from circle-jerk to circular firing squad.

Den(n)is, comments are almost never removed from this blog. There are very few reasons to do so, and all those reasons are published. Such removal is always a judgement call and is the undisputed right of the blog editors, just as it is everywhere else. Like Globe and Mail comments, comments here are semi-moderated.

I have read many dozens of the comments on your blog and you also attract some nasties. This is what happens. We aren’t special here and neither are you.

“so hateful and full of bile?”

There it is, then. Yup. I pushed it in that comment. And you took the bait.

You’ve got two sets of rules here. Your favoured contributors and the Anonymice get to say whatever they want – but that “freedom” is strictly one way. the long eye of introspection never, ever turns inward. I have no idea what you go through? Poor you.

I remember recoiling at the post under your watch that took Antonia Zerbisias out to the woodshed in probably one of the most sexist, hateful and inexplicable posts I’ve ever read on a blog by a supposed non-crazy person. I seem to also recall something you published that so pushed the bounds of decency re: Stursberg that you even had second thoughts, and took it down.

At some point, the goodwill that you had writing “from the inside” curdled. I don’t know why. I won’t speculate why. But it’s probably why you were once widely quoted, and now? Not so much.

Now you’ve got your coterie of angry teens writing in the slambook – but you’ve lost most everyone else. And whether you cop to it or not, the relentlessly downbeat tone here means that whatever legitimate criticism you do come up with gets lost. It’s all crying wolf, all the time at the Teamakers.

You made a good call when you withdrew from posting. You lost perspective. You’re right — I have no idea what it’s like to try to be a manager at CBC. You can accuse me of whatever arrogance you want — but I do, and have, admitted when I was wrong. I’ve invited people who disagree with what I write to respond — and they have.

What was a valuable resource at one point, post-lockout, is now just malcontents crying “the sky is falling” 24/7. It’s actually rather sad.

But by all means, continue to enjoy Joe and Allan and all their many pearls of wisdom. I’m not one of those who consider destruction a creative act, but hey, whatever frosts your tips.

For the record, I don’t mind if Denis or someone else takes something from this blog and reuses it without attribution. He wouldn’t be the first to do it.

And to take and to ridicule me and my audience while taking? Also been done before. John Doyle is a master of the technique.

    It doesn’t bother me, either.

Denis is always welcome here. Although last time he visited he left a turd of a comment that was so hateful and full of bile I had to do the rarest of things. I had to remove it. I guess he was trying to inspire us. But he offended many.

I also think his post is rather judgemental of me and my readers. He has no idea what I go through and have gone through to keep this blog online. But he’s quick to judge all of us on the basis of nothing much.

He’s entitled to his opinion. And I’m not going to lose much sleep over what dead things on sticks thinks of me or my website.

If I did I would have given up a long, long time ago.

There are no barriers to free expression at The Tea Makers.
And everyone is qualified to offer an opinion.
Dissent, in particular, is valued here.

For “hear,” Anonymous at 12:25, I assume you do not mean “mindlessly heed.”

Obnoxious, arrogant, fat or the writer of bad television; none of these are reasons not to hear the man. In fact the last of these characteristics qualify him to offer opinions on the medium. Contrary voices are good, they put others in perspective. And it seems perfectly clear that he advocates for a stronger CBC. I hope he keeps chiming in.

DMC is obnoxious and arrogant. He gives anyone familiar with his sycophantic musings reason to call for the dismantling of the CBC.

But he did get the nerve together.

Ironically the truth is that Denis was inspired by the CBC Lockout Bloggers, especially Ouimet. Reading them, and this blog, he decided to start his own.

And in those days it wasn’t clear who “DMC” was. Oh sure, the clues were there, but his real name was nowhere to be found.

So all this talk of “growing a pair” and anonymous cowards is a little disingenuous coming from him. It took him some time to get up the nerve.

Sometimes you, Allan and Dmc seem like the same person. This is great forum that is highjacked far too often for personal grievances. Stick to the substantive stuff, the CBC is in deep shit, Kids.
